English Language Requirement
You are required to have an acceptable level of spoken English. A translator may be used, with prior consent from MediTrain when you are not a confident English language speaker.
If you require support because of difficulties with the English language, you must contact us at least 48 hours before your first aid course so that we can discuss this with you.
Learning Difficulties, Disabilities and Physical Requirements
If you have any learning difficulties that may require extra support during your training, you should contact us at least 24 hours before your first aid course so that we can discuss this with you and make appropriate arrangements if necessary.
Worksheet
Failure to complete the pre-course Worksheet means that you will not receive a certificate or unit standards.
Assessment
Our courses are practical and involve groupwork. You will be required to demonstrate to the instructor that you are physically able to perform set first aid tasks in simulated emergency situations. If you are unable to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the floor long enough for the instructor to assess competency, then you may not meet the requirements for a first aid certificate and/or the unit standards (if applicable).
Eligibility for First Aid Recertification
First aid recertification (or refresher) training is required every two years to maintain your certificate.
To be eligible for recertification training, you must hold a valid first aid certificate that is no older than 2 years and 3 months. Your recertification training can only revalidate your existing certificate.
To attend workplace first aid recertification training your previous certificate must show that your previous course was assessed against NZQA unit standards 6402, 6401 and 6400.
If your certificate is not renewed within three calendar months from the second anniversary date of issue, you will have to complete full first aid training. This means that, in order to obtain a recertification certificate, you must complete all parts of your recertification training within 2 years and 3 months of the date of your previous certificate. This includes completing your first aid course and handing in your completed Student Learning Pack Worksheet.
If you have not done your previous training with us, we need a copy your previous certificate for verification before, or on, the course date. Please provide your previous certificate at the time of booking or some other time before your first aid course if possible as this will make the course day less complicated for you and us. You can email us a copy or a photo of it. If you are unable to provide a valid previous certificate, you can attend an additional session to enable you to complete a full workplace first aid course within 30 days of your course date. You will need to pay for a full workplace first aid course.
Course Attendance
The start time of your first aid course is confirmed in your confirmation email.
For our publicly scheduled classes, registration starts at 8:15 am. During the first 15 minutes, you meet your instructor and settle in with a tea or coffee. Training starts at 8:30 am.
Please note that if you arrive before 8.15 am you may be asked to wait outside until the classroom is set up. We start on time.
If you are late, you may not be able to join the first aid course and must reschedule. This is because you have missed content, may interrupt other students and will fail to meet NZQA time requirements. You may be charged 50% of your course fee.
If you are late due to exceptional circumstances, you may be allowed to join the class providing the instructor has time to work through the course component(s) you missed. You may be given additional activities to complete (for example a quiz) to make up for lost time.
You must also return on time from any breaks.
